Technical Sales Engineer
The Technical Sales Engineer will be focused on all technical aspects of the sales cycle including software demonstrations, customer relationship management, technical sales presentations and support for the proposal response process. The Sales Engineer will act as the trusted source on a potential client’s behalf to comprehend their individual technological needs, and interpret how to best fit these needs with eMeter’s suite of Smart Grid Solutions. The Sales Engineer will closely align with a Business Development Manager to counsel the potential client on the best collaborative offering for the best functional and technical fit.
The Technical Sales Engineer will support eMeter’s Business Development Managers by preparing and delivering enterprise level software demonstrations, technical needs assessments, and proposal presentations. This role will collect and provide feedback between the potential client and internal eMeter support to derive the best solution and will work in tandem with the Business Development Manager to drive the overall collaborative account strategy.
This position is a customer-facing Sales role and is required to handle multiple accounts across multiple regions while utilizing various internal eMeter resources to develop the best solution. The candidate must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills coupled with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
• Assemble and present quality software demonstrations based upon client requirements
• Assemble and present quality technical presentation material
• Assist BDM in sales process with full sales cycle technical support
• Assist in responses to Sales proposals and Requests for Information from prospective customers, including functional and technical requirements.
• Drive process improvements to support demonstrations and sales activities
• Work closely with Product Management group to anticipate use cases and demonstration data around new product functionality
Qualifications
• 5+ years experience in technical sales, engineering/consulting or skills in software sales support, project management or similar type role
• Previous sales demonstration experience with Enterprise level Software
• Excellent presentation skills, initiative, and creativity to deliver complex concepts with a simplified and easy-to-comprehend approach to developing real-life business user demonstrations of eMeter solutions
• Exceptional organizational skills to prioritize the management of multiple accounts and unique objectives
• Strong communication skills to effectively work as a liaison between functional and technical resources across internal and external communities
• Strong analytic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills to define client requirements and scope out demonstration scenarios
• Technical competence and practical knowledge of
o Microsoft Office Applications – Powerpoint a must
o Unix commands, including vi
o Unix basic scripting
o Unix text manipulation utilities (sed/awk) (not required, but a plus)
o SQL (Oracle) including database tools
o Oracle Business Intelligence a plus
The Sales Engineering position requires travel and strongly encourages utility industry knowledge and a minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
