More security measures may be coming to LAX, according to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
The mayor met with police and airport security officials at LAX, and told reporters he supports the expanded use of full-body scanners at the airport.
With heightened security measures in place at airports around the world, Villaraigosa insisted today that Los Angeles International Airport is safe for travelers, but said additional security steps are being considered to ease concerns about terrorism.
"Fortunately, here at LAX, we're ahead of the curve on security measures, making our airport safer. I'm proud to say we're not resting on our laurels," he said.On Monday, the head of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association urged the federal government to quickly adopt body scanners on a wide scale to keep explosives off jetliners.
"This incident is a solemn reminder of the need for proactive airport security at U.S. airports, especially at Los Angeles International Airport, long considered the state's top terrorist target," association president Marshall McClain said.
LAX is one of 19 airports using whole-body imagers, but the devices generally are deployed only after a passenger has been selected for secondary screening, McClain said.“Children today are tyrants. Dear Inquisitive Dad,
Parenting styles depend on the parenting team and the background of the moms and dads. I have noticed a pattern and formulated four basic parenting styles.
First there’s the permissive parent who gives control to the child. To avoid tantrums, this parent gives in to the child to dodge embarrassing confrontations in places like a restaurant or the mall. They will placate strong mood swings to sidestep hostile encounters. This parent will do anything to keep the peace. There is a positive side to this parent/child relationship. The permissive parent and her child are buddies. However, there’s a problem with this; the child doesn’t need a friend. He needs a parent. He realizes he’s in control and will rebel if Mom or Dad tries to regain control. Since this child does not sense the support he needs, he feels disconnected and will not develop a strong and healthy sense of self. Children need structure and parameters in their lives. They do not raise themselves! Without healthy fences to grow within, children can become wild and insecure.
There are homes in which the parents rule. In this authoritarian home the law must be obeyed or ELSE ! The child knows who is in charge and is well aware of their expectations. There are very clear-cut boundaries, so the child has a sense of security. She is brought up to respect the rules and understands the consequences for breaking them. However, though the child blindly obeys, does she understand the purpose of these rules? Does she learn from her mistakes? In this home her opinion is not valued, which results in low self-esteem. As a teen she may rebel and turn into a hellion when her parents aren’t around. The inner mechanism for self-restraint has not been taught. Getting
