Some of Dave's credits include :
Recorded and toured internationally with MICHELLE BRANCH. Worked with Avril Lavigne. Recorded a song for the soundtrack of the academy award winning movie 'CRASH', a song for the movie 'ME, MYSELF and IRENE' with Jim Carey and a song for the tv series 'BUFFY the VAMPIRE SLAYER'. Drum samples for PBS's 'CURIOUS GEORGE' the cartoons and drum samples and drum loops for MTV's 'JACKASS'.
I studied music and have a degree in Modern music from the West Australian Conservatorium of Music. I taught at Australian colleges and teaching studios (where I have references from) before moving to Los Angeles. Soon after my arrival into the U.S. I began teaching at the Musician's Institute of Technology in Hollywood,CA. I taught private lessons there, reading classes and a class on how to play with loops that was very well attended. I also played in many Master Classes for the students over at the Los Angeles Music Academy in Pasadena, CA.
I am now teaching at my newly renovated, professional drum studio in the North Hollywood Arts District, near the 101 and 170 freeways.
* I teach all styles and all levels (beginners to the very advanced).
* I encourage students to bring in music that they wish to learn. I teach very practically and for a band situation.
* With the student's requests, I then develop lesson plans which are individual to each student
* I teach a fun and easy method of reading and apply it to grooves and fills around the kit. Which I feel plays a crucial role in the development of the students 'vocabulary of rhythms'. It also speeds up the learning process.
* I teach my cool, quick chart system for straight ahead songs and professional charting for advanced songs, tv or film work.
* I teach 4 way independence and coordination. Giving equal importance to both hands and both feet, for the process of building strong independence in each limb to enhance overall coordination.
* I teach technique and sticking motions (playing very soft to very loud, very slow to very fast) to build power and speed, whilst giving equal importance to the development of strength in the fingers, wrists, forearms and the whole arm. This will also build a students dynamic range and a 'sense of dynamics' which is crucial in playing music with other musicians.
* I teach all the essential rudiments and then configure them into cool grooves for each student, so it stays FUN!! to practice your rudiments.
* I teach the importance of the drummer's role within a band situation.
* I teach the art of playing with a click track or drum loops. This will also develop the student's 'sense of time' and the ability to lay down a solid 'time foundation' for other musicians to play too.
* I teach studio drumming with the specialty of how to make a recorded track 'Feel' good.
* I have numerous drum books to reference from, depending on what styles the student wants to focus their attention on.
* I teach how to tune drums and how to pick the right drum heads for your kit. Or, feel free to bring drums into my studio for tuning.
* I teach the 'need to know' aspects of the music biz.
* I teach world rhythms for the drum kit if the student requests it.
* I teach double kick if the student requests it.
* I teach brushes if the student requests it.
* I teach odd meters if the student requests it.
* 2 kits set up at times. Playing, together with the student will develop musical conversation and overall musicianship.
My more than fair prices are as follows :
FIRST 15 MINUTES FREE! to assess student's ablity and areas of focus. (This extra time will be added to the first lesson)
$30 for a half hour/
$45 for a full hour ( Discounted Holiday Special)
* Contact me for specially discounted prices, for group lessons and/or paying for 4 or 8 lessons in advance.
* I will also go to a student's house or studio to teach, for an additional fee.
* Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons.
